CHOICE at the 18th International Tool Fair: Exploring Digital Solutions for Sustainable Food Choices
From November 4-8, 2024, CHOICE participated in the 18th International Tool Fair, themed “Tech-tonic Motions in Learning,” held in Reykjavík, Iceland. Representing CHOICE, Dr. Ilias Karachalios participated in the Tools Market on November 6th to showcase the “Shrink Your Food Waste” app—a digital tool designed to support sustainable choices in food consumption—on behalf of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) and the Urban Water Management and Hydroinformatics Group of NTUA.
Hosted by Rannís – The Icelandic Centre for Research, the International Tool Fair serves as a collaborative platform that brings together educators, youth workers, and digital innovators from across Europe to explore, share, and develop educational tools that foster meaningful learning and engagement. This year’s theme, “Tech-tonic Motions in Learning,” emphasized the role of digital transformation in education, with a particular focus on how technology can be used to support sustainability and climate action.
Demonstrations of the Shrink Your Food Waste App
During the Tools Market on November 6th, participants at the 18th International Tool Fair explored a wide array of digital tools and resources, each crafted to inspire innovative approaches to both formal and non-formal learning. Among these, CHOICE’s “Shrink Your Food Waste” app was showcased in the digital tools section, capturing attention from educators, youth leaders, and community representatives seeking practical, accessible solutions for sustainability.
Through interactive demonstrations, Dr. Ilias Karachalios engaged exhibition attendees in understanding how small daily actions can collectively reduce food waste. The app, designed to make food waste reduction both accessible and engaging, uses interactive features, real-time tracking, and practical tips to guide users toward more sustainable habits. By allowing individuals to monitor their food consumption patterns, the app not only helps users reduce waste but also offers insights into their environmental impact, empowering them to take meaningful, informed steps toward sustainability.
